It's A Dogs Life At The Days Inn Hotel Wetherby
Over 250 of the national’s top dogs and their faithful owners are set to descend on the Days Inn hotel Wetherby this weekend in preparation for the annual Driffield championship dog show which attracts hundreds of Britain’s top breeders and their precious pets.
But the pedigree pooches are in for a surprise treat this year as hotel chef has created the Days Inn doggy menu, packed with canine-inspired dishes to suit the fussiest of four legged guest.
The Days Inn, which is hailed as one of the UK's top dog-friendly hotels, is laying on a mouthwatering array of mutt munchies including pooch porridge, terrier toast and eggs bonio to satisfy the every whim of these hungry hounds.
The Driffield Dog show which began this Thursday at the near-by Driffield showground, attracts Crufts champions and leading dog breeders from across the UK and Europe many of whom are regular guests with their dogs at the hotel, prompting the creation of this year’s unique canine culinary offering.
Hotel general manager and self-confessed dog lover Clair Sidebottom explains: "We welcome dozens of dogs and their owners into the hotel over the weekend of the dog show. It is an incredibly important event in their calendar. We know how well looked after these dogs are and thought it would be a good idea to serve up a special menu just for the dogs. It's taken quite a lot of thinking up and we enlisted our own dogs as taste testers.”
Ben Gray, a championship breeder of Newfoundland dogs is staying at the hotel with his 8 month old puppy Maddie. “Our dogs love coming to the Days Inn, we are all made to feel so welcome. The dogs are given their own bowls, beds and now the new snacks. All carefully thought through to be gluten free, fat free, all very natural. It is quite exceptional service and the dogs even get their own welcome letter from the manager.”
The 129-bed hotel, nestled in the picturesque Yorkshire triangle of Leeds, York and Harrogate, is part of Starboard Hotels portfolio and is just off junction 46 of the A1 (M). Surrounded by fields, the hotel is perfect for dog-walking and with its close proximity to Leeds is a popular resting place for travellers attending Wetherby races, Leeds festival and other annual events.
All dogs staying at the hotel are given their own bowls and beds. Now the new mutt menu which also features snacks including woofles, Yorkie puddings and pedigree pannini's might even become a permanent fixture of the hotel's dog friendly offering.
Clair adds: “It is surprising how many dogs have a really varied diet. Ordinary dog food just doesn’t feature in their diet. We hope our menu will appeal to dogs of all breeds and sizes. We are even planning to cater for special doggy dietary requirements. And of course we hope their owners enjoy their stay with us too.”
